Scripture: Genesis 4:8–10; Proverbs 31:8–9.
Mirror of the Text
Genesis 4 records violence between brothers and then a question about Abel. The account moves from the act to accountability. The blood crying from the ground is striking narrative language that refuses to make the victim disappear. Proverbs 31 calls for speaking on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves.
Lamp of the Watchman
Truthful study is never merely an elegant arrangement of numbers. Scripture also witnesses to obligations toward people who are vulnerable or unheard. When interpreting a difficult passage, readers must avoid treating human harm as incidental. Accountability includes the words we choose and the evidence we omit.
